On Tuesday 24th we meet at Waikaka and catch a bus for Piano Flat at 10.30 am. Bring own lunch to be eaten at Piano Flat before beginning the few hours walk to the Whitecoomb Bridge where we will pitch our tents or move into a marquee. We spend 3 nights here.
On Wednesday 25th we walk northwards and visit an old mining area. After lunch some might like to return to camp while others walk further northwards to visit caves under huge rocks before returning.
On Thursday 26th we walk down to the Canton Bridge, then up to a log cabin for lunch. Here, as on Wednesday some may wish to return to camp while others walk onwards towards, but probably not to, the Blue Lake before returning.
Friday 27th. Most return to Piano Flat after breaking up camp. There is much to explore there for the rest of the day. Tents and
marquee will be pitched there for the night. A small group may decide to walk up to the highest point of the White Umbrellas (a Plateau between the Whitecoomb and Waikaia Rivers) before making its way down through the forest to Piano Flat.
Saturday 28th we break up camp then bus to Waikaka for the midday parade.
